Dispute over the border between Sudan and South Sudan has focussed on the question of where the boundary between the countries is to be drawn. When Boundaries Become Borders, first published before South Sudan’s independence, examines an issue of equal importance: the impact on those who live each side of this boundary and the other international borders of South Sudan. In a comprehensive survey of archival sources and current research, the study summarises the history and present situation of these border communities and their future at the meeting point of the two Sudans.
